Today we heard a lecture from American educationalist Mitchel Resnick who wrote Life Long Kindergarten.

In Reggio Schools an ‘Atelier’ is what we describe in NZ schools as an authentic learning environment- or a provocation. In other words an atelier is deliberately designed and carefully curated to put the learners in a relationship with reality.

On Friday November 29th we learned about the Reggio Foundation’s ‘Atelier of Tastes’. Of all the ateliers which exist within the Foundation, the Taste Atelier was one we have had the most experience with so far because for many days of the week we eat lunch together at ‘Pause’ restaurant & we had been told early on in our course that the restaurant IS an atelier of food.

Scintillae is the atelier which is the research centre based on play and learning in the digital age. It was created from the need to reconceptualise the epistemology of play in the age of knowledge that knows no bounds & in terms of providing quality education.
